Zinc Galvanizing is a critical process for producing high-quality steel sheets, particularly for applications in automotive, home appliances, and construction. Many challenges in the process, like quality inconsistencies, operational inefficiencies, and high material costs—are common hurdles that significantly impact profitability and competitiveness for companies.
- Quality Control: The varying nature of coating thickness can arise due to changes in line speed, air knife settings, steel substrate properties, and the composition of the zinc bath. Such fluctuations will lead to non-uniform coatings, which impact downstream properties like corrosion resistance and weldability.
- Process Efficiency: Manual intervention and lack of precise automated control make it difficult to adjust line speeds dynamically, resulting in inefficiencies. Optimizing speed control can help balance production targets with quality specifications, enhancing throughput while maintaining consistency.
- High Zinc Consumption: Unstable yield and excessive use of zinc increase production costs. If zinc layer is too thick, it results in material wastage and adversely affects product properties like weldability. If too thin, the product fails to meet corrosion resistance standards.

During production of cold-rolled steel strips, the arc welding machine plays a pivotal role in maintaining seamless operation of the production line. It is responsible for welding the ends of steel strips together, ensuring uninterrupted flow throughout the process. Currently, workers rely on traditional methods such as referencing machine’s past data, past experience, manual impact tests and visual inspections to ensure weld quality; of which, such methods are highly inaccurate and not in real-time, leading to inefficiency and increased risk of quality defects, from time to time.
